The local and international media reports highlight the services offered by CUMI.
CUMI provides a necessary safety net that complements mental health services in the community of Montego Bay, St. James , Jamaica W.I.
Through the forming of partnerships, the limited resources can target the vulnerable and supplement the health provisions in the community.
The CUMI Rehabilitation Day Programme has assisted the homeless and the mentally ill to achieve an improved quality of life … and this has provided many clients the opportunities to develop a better sustainability for their future.
The majority of clients enter the programme with a status which identifies them as mentally ill and/or homeless. Through the services offered on a daily basis plus the energy and atmosphere at the Centre, negative attitudes are for the most part transformed into feelings of hope, security, relief, trust, self-worth and purpose. Many return to the community as productive individuals with the aim to contribute to their own sustainability.
“If there is a language which the Deaf can hear, the Blind can see and the Mentally Ill can feel … it is the language of LOVE!!”
